UNCLE SU CHINESE RESTAURANT // THE STAR GOLD COAST

Hillmorr was engaged by SHAPE to create custom wallcoverings for the Imperial Chinese Restaurant, Uncle Su located within The Star Gold Coast, Queensland as part of the restaurant’s full refurbishment. Hillmorr worked closely with SHAPE and Plus Architecture to source and customise custom murals that were unique in texture, size and colour to perfectly suit each distinctive space within the restaurant.

The surfaces to be wallpapered included two domed ceilings within the private dining, adorned with the custom ‘Crane’ design as well as two large long-length inked Mountain Murals each with different height and length. The domed ceilings were different in size and colour palette, the ‘Cranes’ wallpaper was therefore adapted and customised to suit the size and space of each ceiling space. The Mountain mural was adapted for two wall spaces, the first to feature behind timber panelling measuring 7550 x 2687 mm as well as feature above the long 11850 x 1435 mm banquette seating in the main dining area. Hillmorr created each individual mural to fit the wall size, making sure from measured drawings that the graphics would sit within the specified space with no part of the graphic being cut off during the installation process.

With a focus on rich and indulgent tones and textures, we experimented with a variety of substrates and colour palettes to help create tonality and texture on the walls. These included our GRASSCLOTH substrate for the Mountain Murals for it’s deep- lineal embossing and as well as OYSTER for it’s opulent and pearlescent effect for the ‘Crane’ domed ceilings. Both GRASSCLOTH and OYSTER were chosen for their visual and textural attributes but also for their robustness. Furthermore, like all our substrates is FR compliant and cleanable perfect for hospitality spaces.
